Pets and your carpet

Having a pet can mean more carpet maintenance because of dirt, dust, fur and dander. This doesn’t have to be difficult if you follow simple cleaning steps and guidelines.

Synthetic carpet with short pile is ideal to have when you have pets. It’s easier to keep clean and it won’t absorb liquids that easily. Most synthetic carpets come with a built in stain protection as well. Silk or wool carpet will absorb liquid stains more easily. They also tend to trap more dust and hair into them.

Under pads can protect your rug from mechanical stress and stains. Aside from hindering the absorption of liquid spills many under pads are antibacterial. This will prevent odors from occurring and prevent bacteria from growing.  A shock absorbing under pad will save the integrity of the carpet and prevent wearing.

Carpets should be vacuumed once or twice a week. A vacuum with a brush roll setting will help remove fur from the carpet fibers. Carpets should be cleaned by a professional carpet cleaning company once a year. Steam carpet cleaning is suggested if the carpet needs only a few stains removed.
